Critical Thinking Relates to Peer Assesment

According to me, critical thinking makes me think creatively and independently. It entails the process of analyzing, searching for relevant sources, and deciding on the outcome of the analysis; as a result, it allows me to better understand the content of the learning material and the learning objectives.Besides, my understanding of producing good writing can improve. Critical thinking in a peer’s writing assignment not only provides an advantage for me but also for my classmates. My feedback to my classmates helps them see their mistakes so that they can improve their writing in the future and write better writing.

When assessing or evaluating others' assignments, I critically think about using my skills and ability to give better feedback. As a non-native English speaker, I always read my peer’s writing assignments carefully to understand what he/she says in their writing. When it is urgent, it is OK to use an online dictionary to help me understand the meaning of the difficult words. Besides, when I find something that makes me doubt my peer's thought, I immediately look for information from relevant sources to make sure whether my peer’s thought is reasonable, logical or not. Good writing must have a main idea and supporting idea in each paragraph. A main idea is the "key concept" being expressed. Details, major and minor, support the main idea by telling how, what, when, where, why, how much, or how many. Criticizing the writing mechanics is important too. Writing mechanics involve grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, and organization. A checklist really helps me assess the writing mechanics of my classmate’s assignment.

Based on that explanation, it can be concluded that critical thinking in peer assessment enables both me and my classmates to improve our skills in writing. In critical thinking, it involves the process of analyzing, looking for relevant sources, and deciding the result of the analysis, which will be used as feedback. By considering the important elements and writing mechanics, I believe that those processes can improve our writing skills. I strongly suggest that all classes should trigger students to think critically because we have known the advantages of it for students, as I mentioned before.
